Discover Why Certain Jewelry Can Stain
By VT
If you've ever had a piece of jewelry that leaves a green spot on your skin I'm sure you've wondered what the cause is. Most Often ~ there is a reaction caused by the metal in the jewelry to people who wears inexpensive jewelry. This occurs to some faster than others~ though, because everyone's skin is different.
Even the more expensive jewelry can turn you green too<, because even the expensive stuff isnt pure; regardless of cost. Platinum is one metal that usually doesn't react with skin so you shouldn't have to worry if you buy platinum jewelry.
To keep gold jewelry making you look green make sure that you don't have made from cheap metal and then plated – it has only a very fine coating of gold over top of a base metal that can rub off. For 'real' gold jewelry choosing a higher karat will lower your chances of green skin.
Copper will react with skin and you'll have to just accept that if you wear copper.
Avoid wearing jewelry when you're sweating a lot it can amplify the skin to metal reaction you can also get a special coating put on – in order to try to stop the reaction or minimize it. If you do this you should be able to wear your jewelry quite often. Remember<, the green discoloration isn't harmful. It's a chemical skin reaction and not an allergic reaction.
Metal allergic reactions turn your skin red and also will make your skin inflamed and itchy. It's not anything like a green skin reaction. If you do get an allergy to a piece of jewelry stop wearing that right away. Green skin shouldnt scare you ore keep you from wearing your favorite pieces just be sure to keep the skin clean so its not ugly.
All in all coating your jewelry is probably the answer.
